A former international hostage negotiator for the FBI offers a new, field-tested approach to high-stakes negotiations—whether in the boardroom or at home.

After a stint policing the rough streets of Kansas City, Missouri, Chris Voss joined the FBI, where his career as a hostage negotiator brought him face-to-face with a range of criminals, including bank robbers and terrorists. Reaching the pinnacle of his profession, he became the FBI’s lead international kidnapping negotiator. Never Split the Difference takes you inside the world of high-stakes negotiations and into Voss’s head, revealing the skills that helped him and his colleagues to succeed where it mattered most: saving lives. In this practical guide, he shares the nine effective principles—counter-intuitive tactics and strategies—you too can use to become more persuasive in both your professional and personal life.

Life is a series of negotiations you should be prepared for: buying a car; negotiating a salary; buying a home; renegotiating rent; deliberating with your partner. Taking emotional intelligence and intuition to the next level, Never Split the Difference gives you the competitive edge in any discussion.
JIT - a management approach to ensure that the right quantities of raw materials/products are purchased and made at the right time and quality, and that there is no waste. JIT is a management philosophy that was originally imported and adopted piecemeal from the Japanese. More recently, companies have taken an integrated approach to JIT techniques, and it is this 'complete' philosophy that is now meeting with considerable success. This text starts by looking at a definition of JIT as well as early misconceptions but concentrates in the main on JIT implementations in Japan, the USA and the UK. The authors have put considerable emphasis on case study material giving the reader the advantage of learning from manufacturers who have already successfully adopted it, examining the advantages and disadvantages it offers. The book also includes a section on how to implement a JIT programme illustrated at each stage with mini case-study examples.
This innovative book presents an up-to-date account of service operations, spanning topics such as IT-enabled services, service supply chain and volatility of demand and supply. Combining a systems perspective with a focus on service supply chains, the chapters provide a clearly framed set of mechanisms and theories with a focus on innovation-driven sectors and the game-changing role of IT. With each chapter built around real-life examples and service companies, the primary services supply chain is discussed alongside four key stakeholder groups: workforce, customers and markets, buyers and suppliers, and IT and innovations. Combining theory and practice, this book is crucial reading for both students and executives of operation services.
